Chimbote is a major fishing port (with a big fishing fleet) and produces fishmeal which is exported.
The journey from Chimbote to Huanchaco, and from Huanchaco (a seaside resort) to Chiclayo, is fairly un-eventful and the scenery is mostly "boring" desert. (but nevertheless of interest!)
Wherever a river flows down (west) from the Andes, there are rich agricultural valleys. (including rice fields).
