Firstly, my apologies that I have not got a lot more (3) video footage of the actual train journey. The valley is quite narrow, so, unlike the video footage to Huaraz by car, the views are quite restrictive in parts. It is certainly a journey that is worth doing.
La Oroya is a mining town approx 12,000 ft (3,700m) ASL with a population of approx 30,000. It ranks as one the 10 most polluted places in the world. A 1999 study (conducted two years after Doe Run's acquisition) showed high levels of air pollution, with 85 times more arsenic, 41 times more cadmium, and 13 times more lead than amounts generally considered safe.
The four videos of Huancayo tend to concentrate on a festival that was being held.
Finally, a video of a young couple (Peruvian champions) performing traditional Folk Dances.
